Introduction

Old backups are deleted automatically according to the rules defined in the backup options. Read "Automatic cleanup rules" section in the user guide: local backups, backups in Acronis Cloud.

The backup menu option "Delete", that has always existed in the program, removes a backup completely, with all of its versions.

Mapped drives are not listed/available in GUI (e.g. as the backup source/destination) or backup via acrocmd command line tool to a mapped drive fails.

You install an Acronis product in a Windows operating system. Installation fails with these messages in MSI log: "MainEngineThread is returning 1603" error in log

Acronis services to use for upload and download of large amounts of data to cloud

Backing up and restoring large amounts of data to a cloud storage over a slow Internet connection is time-consuming. To help backup service users in these cases, we at Acronis have designed special services for initial upload and download of large amounts of data. These services help end users save time and network traffic by sending the data to the cloud data center on a hard drive or request a hard drive with their backups from the data center.

Acronis Managed Machine Service is the main service. It can run under a dedicated account or under an account, you specify during installation. Either account is given privileges that are needed for the service to work. The privileges include a set of user rights, membership in security groups, and the Full Control permissions on respective registry keys in the following key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Acronis.

Symptoms

You receive the following alert:

Cyber Protection (or Active Protection) service is not responding

Cause

Alert is raised when Acronis Active Protection service or Acronis Cyber Protection service has been enabled for this machine, but is not started or does not respond.

Symptoms

  1.  You recover a file from a backup using Download option, but after download the recovered file is 0 bytes in size;
  2. In mms log (C:\ProgramData\Acronis\BackupAndRecovery\MMS\mms.0.log), there are warnings about "Unsupported file type"

How to uninstall and cleanup machine from Acronis backup software

Cleanup Utility is a console application that removes all Acronis products and their components from Windows.

(!) Cleanup Utility should be used only in case the product fails to be uninstalled the usual way from Windows Control Panel or using the installation file.

As a precautionary measure, prior to using the Cleanup Utility, we highly recommend that necessary backup measures be taken to preserve Customer data. This can be done using Acronis software or third party software and/or hardware.
