How to check if the installation file has been downloaded correctly

We occasionally receive requests from customers regarding the management of .DS_Store files. The primary reason for this is that by default, OS X clients do not request these files have the hidden attribute set, since on OS X the default setting is that files that begin with a . (dot) are not visible when browsing.

In Mac OS X Catalina, Apple introduced a Notarization of software requirement. More details can be read here.

Even though the Backup Agent for MAC should install and function properly on build 12.5.14800 , the OS would still produce a warning that the software could not be checked for malware:

"X can't be opened because Apple cannot check it for malicious software.
This software needs to be updated. Contact the developer for more information."


1) You are trying to install, update, uninstall, register or unregister Agent for Mac.

2) Agent registration on Management Server fails with the error message:

Could not resolve host: localhost; nodename nor servname provided, or not known


  1. You are backing up a Mac with macOS Mojave (10.14)
  2. You receive a warning similar to the following one:

The 'Full Disk Access' permission was not granted to the app. To grant it, go to the 'Utilities' folder in Finder, click 'Backup Agent Assistant', and then follow the instructions from the app.


Backup Agent requires full disk access permissions in order to back up your data.

Acronis System Report is a script that collects diagnostic information about the Mac and installed Acronis products (if any).

After an update to macOS Catalina (10.15) Acronis backups instantly fail with the following error:

Internal error: mount point required for file-level backup


During the installation of Acronis Cyber Protect Cloud on MacOS Sierra 10.12.1 the following warning appears:

Incompatible operating system
Agent for Mac may be incompatible with the current operating system. Agent for Mac is fully compatible with OS X 10.8 through 10.11.


You can ignore the warning, click OK to continue installation. The warning will be removed in the next update.

Machine already has been backed up several times. To check the recovery points, you go to All devices, select the machine, and click Recovery.

You click Refresh (in the upper right corner of the list) to refresh the list of recovery points. In a minute, recovery points appear, but you notice that some or all of the recovery points are now missing from the list.

You might see this message:

There are no backups of the selected devices in the known locations.

We recommend keeping your Acronis True Image up to date. You are eligible to download and install any new build of Acronis True Image Essential, Advanced or Premium as long as your subscription is valid.Having a full or an upgrade license of Acronis True Image 2020 Standard you are eligible to download and install any new build (an update) of Acronis True Image 2020 for free.

When switching from trial to the full version, you only need to provide the serial number, no need to reinstall the product. All backups, syncs, and other settings will be kept.

If you have an account with active Acronis True Image Essential, Advanced or Premium subscription, you simply need to log in under your account and Acronis True Image 2020 will automatically switch from trial to full version if you have available seats or if you had previously activated an earlier version of Acronis True Image on this machine.


Acronis True Image Beta is available in English and all the communication is performed in English language only. Other languages will become available in the release version of Acronis True Image 2021, when the Beta campaign finishes.


After updating to macOS 10.15.4 backups fail with the following error:

The last backup has failed. Failed to enumerate directory 'Macintosh HD — Data:/private/var/db/lockdown/'. It may be corrupted or does not exist. Please check the disk for errors.


Catalina update 10.15.4 restricted access to folder /private/var/db/lockdown/ for security reasons.

Acronis Cyber Protect Cloud uses Resumable Backup technology which reduces network load and therefore enhances backup performance.

Resumable Backup means that in case of a backup failure data upload will be resumed, i.e.:


You installed Acronis Cyber Protect Agent on a Linux or Mac system

 The following alert is shown for the machine with the agent for Linux or Mac:

Cyber Protection (or Active Protection) service is not responding

Active Protection Service is not responding. Please restart the machine or contact your administrator/

Acronis Access Advanced and Acronis Mass Transit are not directly affected by Meltdown or Spectre.


When an application crashes on macOS, a system service named "CrashReporter" captures information to a file that can then be used to diagnose the problem.

This note details where the CrashReporter stores these files.


The CrashReporter saves the relevant system information in a file in one of two places depending on whether you are logged in as an administrator or not.

The two locations are:

~/Library/Logs/CrashReporter, and



  1. You back up a macOS system with RAID set up using SoftRaid
  2. If external USB drive is attached to the system, backup fails with the following error:

    Selected volumes were not found: RAID 5


SoftRaid is supported by Acronis Cyber Protect Cloud 9.0 and later.

Earlier versions do not support SoftRaid; correct functionality with SoftRaid is not guaranteed.


When backing up a Mac with macOS Mojave (10.14), you receive a warning similar to the following one:

Acronis True Image is available in three packs (tiers): 1 computer, 3 computers, 5 computers.

If you have a 1-computer subscription, you can upgrade to a 3-computer or a 5-computer subscription. A 3-computer subscription can be upgraded to a 5-computer subscription.

To upgrade to a 3-computer subscription, you need to purchase an Acronis True Image (Essential, Advanced or Premium) for 3 computers. Three 1-computer subscriptions cannot be automatically summed up into a 3-computer subscription.


You have previously granted full disk access to Backup Agent/Cyber Protection Agent. 

After updating to Agent 15300 or updating from Agent 15300 to a later build, backups on Mac produce the following warning:

You copy AcronisTrueImage2020.dmg to the Program or Applications folder and get the following alert:

Acronis True Image is damaged and can't be opened. You should move it to the Trash


You have created Acronis bootable media under macOS 10.15.5

After you recover the system using this bootable media, the machine does not boot.


Issue in macOS 10.15.5. 


You create a protection plan to back up a Mac machine and enable the option If the machine is turned off, run missed tasks at the machine startup.

Machine is in sleep mode during scheduled backup time.

After machine is woken from sleep, backup does not start. The following warning appears in alerts:

Backup status is unknown
The backup agents was offline at a scheduled backup time. The status of the device backups will be unknown until the backup agent becomes online.
