When creating an application-aware backup, you need to specify a guest OS user from Administrators group.

If the guest OS user that you specify is not built-in Administrator, then the following changes must be applied in the guest OS so that this user can be used for application protection in Acronis Backup.

Otherwise, you will see one of these errors:

The specified user does not have enough rights to create an application-aware backup. User Account Control is enabled in the guest system and this user is not a built-in administrator.

Backup fails with the following error:

Windows error: (0x80070522) A required privilege is not held by the client

Acronis Managed Machine Service is the main service. It can run under a dedicated account or under an account, you specify during installation. Either account is given privileges that are needed for the service to work. The privileges include a set of user rights, membership in security groups, and the Full Control permissions on respective registry keys in the following key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Acronis.

Symptoms

  • You have created a protection plan and enabled Application aware backup of SQL.
  • Backup ends with the warning: "The user account that is running Managed Machine Service does not have enough privileges to access instance '...'".

Cause

The user account that is running Acronis Managed Machine Service does not have enough privileges to access the SQL instance
