This article describes peculiarities of backing up to removable devices

This article applies to:

  • Acronis Backup 11.5 (Acronis Backup & Recovery 11.5)
  • Acronis Backup & Recovery 11 Build 17437 or higher

By a removable device, we mean an RDX drive or USB flash drive. A USB hard disk drive is not considered to be a removable device unless it is recognized as such by the operating system.

Correct configuring of backup to removable devices with regular drive swaps with Acronis Backup (Advanced) 11.5 Software.

If you are using Acronis Cyber Backup 12.5 see Acronis Backup: Backing Up to Removable Devices with Regular Drive Swaps

RDX drives are supported by Acronis Cyber Backup 12.5 as a backup destination. They are treated as a regular local backup location.

If you are backing up to a shared RDX drive with swapped disks, set up automatic cleanup via a command or script, so that the disk content is erased before backup starts. See Acronis Cyber Backup 12.5 and Acronis Cyber Backup Cloud: Backing Up to Removable Devices with Regular Drive Swaps This way each disk will contain one full backup.
