Acronis Files Connect (formerly ExtremeZ-IP) uses alternate data streams (ADS) for storing Mac specific data (resource forks). As it happens, Windows Server Deduplication will only dedup the primary data stream of a file, an ADS will not be deduped (see the linked Technet article, below). This may limit the benefits for files that are accessed from the Macs. It is also important to understand that in the OS X 10.7 and higher SMB client, Apple uses the same ADS formatting that is used by AFP with Acronis Files Connect.
Symptoms
You get the following error messages when attempting to use a backup location with deduplication as backup destination:
There is an error in the hash database
and
Database disk image is malformed
Cause
Deduplication database is corrupted, due to hardware issues with the storage or other reasons.
Solution
Rebuild the deduplication database by following the steps below:

The used space of the backup location with Deduplication option enabled is seen incorrect via the product GUI:
Cause
Issue in the product. The backup location contains the tib files and the datastore files (unified_data.ds.0 or unified_data.ds.1 files). These datastore files contains the main backed up data and the sizes of these files are not counted.
