I am getting an error "current license or ESXi version prohibits execution" when I try to migrate VMs from VMware to Hyper-V using Acronis V2V Easy Converter. What might be causing this, and how do I fix it?

Resolution

This error is related to running an unlicensed version of ESXi and trying to migrate a VM that is already running. This is by design and due to limitations within the free ESXi API. To resolve this error please try stopping the VM before migrating or upgrade to a licensed version of the ESXi.

Issue

VM's boot disk is being changed from SCSI to IDE when I am using the Acronis V2V Easy Converter to migrate VMs from VMware to Hyper-V. I want to maintain SCSI boot disk and ensure that the VMs are converted as Gen 2. How do I do that?

Resolution

The V2V converter will select the generation type based on the ESXi VM firmware type. If the firmware type is "BIOS" it will convert as GEN1, if it is UEFI it will convert as GEN2.

 

Issue

I connect to our VMWare vCenter using the Acronis V2V Easy Converter and I am not able to see my VMs. What might be causing this, and how do I fix it?

Resolution

Please note that it is highly recommended not to connect using vCenter, but to connect to ESXi hosts directly instead. This ensures stable communication and significantly decreases the conversion time as well.

Trial period for the Acronis product is over and I have purchased a license for that product. Is there a licensed version of the product software I need to download that is different from the trial version of the product software that I have already installed?

I am having issues installing or activating the Acronis product license that was provided to me. How do I fix this issue?

Resolution

If you are installing the Acronis product license on the product version that was released before June 1, 2017 (except for the Acronis Cloud Manager product) please make sure to upgrade to the latest version of your Acronis product for the automatic activation of your license.
