Symptoms

1. You set up e-mail notifications to Gmail.
2. Sending e-mail notifications fails with:
   Authentication failed

Solution

1. To use a Gmail account as email service, do the following:

   1. In the settings of your Gmail account, go to Security ---> App passwords:               

   Pay attention: 2-Step Verification should be activated.

   2. Under "Select the app and device for which you want to generate the app password" choose: Select app -> Other (Custom name), type Acronis and click on Generate.                                                                                                                  

    

   3. The password will be generated:                                                                               

   Copy it down somewhere as you only get to see it once. If you lose this password you’ll need to generate a new one!

    

2. In the program settings specify in this order:
   1. SMTP server: smtp.gmail.com
   2. Encryption: TLS
   3. Port: 587

   It is important to select the encryption type first, and then specify the port.

3. In the SMTP authentication section specify your Gmail e-mail address and the generated password in step 1
   

Click Send test message to check if the e-mail can be delivered successfully.
