    Last update: 07-02-2022

On March 31, 2021, we introduced a new licensing model for Acronis Cyber Protect Cloud, our core product, which enables partners to build comprehensive cyber protection services for little to no upfront costs. At the same time, we introduced optional advanced protection packs that enable you to extend your services, offer greater security, increase your margins, and simplify your management.

Unlike the previous licensing, our new licensing model no longer operates with 'editions' but offers 2 billing modes ('per workload' and 'per gigabyte').

    Benefits of the Advanced licensing

    1. Optimized for less cost: it is possible to mix and match Advanced packs on a workload level based on customers’ needs.
    2. A set of essential cyber protection tools at no cost: #CyberFit Score, vulnerability assessment, anti-ransomware protection, antivirus and antimalware protection (no local signature-based detection), group management of devices, remote desktop and remote assistance, hardware inventory, and device control.
    3. Less manual work: automatic service quota acquisition and revocation based on the features enabled in protection plans.
    4. Reduced number of SKUs to deal with.
    5. Simpler billing: a single licensing model for all the customers, no mix of several licensing models.
    6. Reduced cost of integration and maintenance: three times less offering items, straight-forward edition switch logic, better UX.
    7. No functional difference between Per workload and Per gigabyte billing modes (as it was before the Acronis Cyber Cloud 21.03 release).

    Switching to the Advanced licensing

The time frame for switching to Advanced licensing

After the introduction of our new licensing model in March 2021, we continue to gradually transition to the new licensing and to limit the use of our legacy licensing: starting with July 1, 2021, the possibility to create new customers in legacy licensing is no longer available via Management Portal UI (yet, still possible via API).

The next big milestone was October 1, 2021, when the Legacy licensing reached its EoL. It means that the partners and customers who were still using the legacy licensing were automatically switched to Advanced licensing after this date.

How the offering items of the legacy editions map to new Advanced licensing

The table below describes which offering items should be enabled in Advanced licensing when switching from Legacy editions to keep the same level of functionality. This mapping is used in the Management Portal and the mass switch script as a base for edition switch logic.

Applicable to these offering items: Workstations, Servers, Virtual machines, and Web Hosting Servers (partially)

How to switch to Advanced licensing

Switching from the legacy Disaster Recovery Editions:

If you have workloads in one of the Legacy Disaster Recovery Editions and they do not have Recovery Servers, their backups will not be protected by Disaster Recovery in the new Advanced licensing. If you need to protect these workloads with Disaster Recovery, enable Disaster Recovery in a protection plan (see product documentation) or create a Recovery Server manually (see product documentation) before switching to the Advanced licensing.

      • Partners using their own custom integration with Acronis Cyber Cloud Account Management API can switch as described in KB69254.
      • Partners using ConnectWise Manage and Autotask PSA can switch as described in KB68657.
      • Partners using RMM integrations (ConnectWise Automate, ConnectWise Control, Kaseya VSA) can switch either in Acronis Management portal KB69256 or with the mass switch script KB67942. New customers should not be created in Legacy licensing.
      • Partners using Acronis Cyber Cloud APS can switch as described in KB69321.
      • Partners not using integrations can switch either in Acronis Management portal KB69256 or with the mass switch script KB67942.
      • Partners using WHMCS can switch to new Advanced licensing as described in KB69374.
