Scenario
You want to use VM replication in VMware environment. This article explains how to allow both source and target hosts to be discovered by Acronis Cyber Protect Cloud or Acronis Cyber Backup.
Solution
First, you need to configure Acronis Agents for VMware (Windows or Virtual Appliances) which can discover both source and target ESXi hosts. You can use one of these configurations:
- If you have VMware vCenter, where both source and target ESXi hosts are managed, register Acronis Agent on this vCenter. You only need 1 Acronis Agent in this scenario which will be capable for discovering both ESXi hosts and perform replication between them.
- If you don't have VMware vCenter and both hosts are standalone hosts, you can do one of the following:
- Install Acronis Agents on the source (Agent1) and the target (Agent2) hosts. With this option, Agent2 is used for host discovery and authentication on the target host, while Agent1 performs replication.
- Install two Agents on the source host. Connect Agent1 to the source host; connect Agent2 to the target host (either using the Agent2 appliance console or Settings -> Agents tab of Cyber Protection Console; follow this guide Configuring an already registered Agent for VMware). Agent1 performs replication.
Once both source and target hosts are discovered, follow these instructions to set up replication: Creating a replication plan.
