This article is to assist with troubleshooting slow disk operations.
This article applies to:
- Acronis Disk Director 11
Solution
Acronis Disk Director performs operations on disks through Windows disk management API. In case all the operations Acronis Disk Director performs are slow, please try to perform any operation in Windows Disk Management. For example, you may try to shrink a volume, and then expand it to its original size. (!) Please do not perform it on the disk, where the operating system is installed.
If there is only one operation showing poor performance in Disk Director, please go directly to the Collect Information section of this article.
In case there is no opportunity to compare software productivity to the native Windows disk manager, please compare performance to Acronis bootable media. If the speed of the operations is considerably faster under the bootable media, the root cause of the issue is in the operating system. In this case we suggest getting in touch with Microsoft support.
If the speed of the bootable media is comparable to the speed in the operating system, then the issue is in the hardware configuration, e.g. a fast drive can be connected via a slow controller. We suggest to change hard drives / cables / controllers in order to see if they are causing the issue.
