List of possible causes and solutions
This article applies to:
- Acronis Backup 11.5 prior to Update 5
- Acronis Backup & Recovery 11.5/11/10
- Acronis True Image 9.1/Echo
- Acronis True Image 2014 prior to Update 3
- True Image 2013 by Acronis
- Acronis True Image Home 2012/2011/2010
- You select to run the Recovery wizard to restore your backup;
- The Recovery wizard does not prompt the Use Acronis Universal Restore option.
The possible causes are:
- There is no operating system in the backup or the operating system is not supported;
- The operating system is not detected;
- The file system on the source disk is corrupted;
- Microsoft sysprep used before taking the archive image.
Make sure that the backup contains a partition with a Windows or Linux supported operating system;
Make sure that this partition is selected for restore;
Another reason could file system errors on the source disk, from which the backup was created.
Check the disk and file system for errors:
Go to the Command Prompt (Start -> Run -> cmd);
Enter the command:
chkdsk DISK: /r
where DISK is the drive letter of the partition you need to check. Please note that checking the C: drive may require you to reboot the machine.
After checking the disks for errors, please recreate the image and try restoring this new image with Acronis Universal Restore again;
If the operating system is still not detected, then please collect the following information and contact Acronis Customer Central with reference to this article:
- System report from the source and the target, see AcronisInfo Utility. If Acronis Backup or Acronis True Image is installed on the machine, you can collect the system within product interface.
- System report under bootable media after restore (Help -> Collect system information).
- Registry captures from the source system, see Capturing Windows Registry.
- Also, include information if the backup was created from Windows or from Acronis Bootable Media, and what build and version of Acronis product was used.
