Bootable Media

You will need Acronis Snap Deploy 6 Bootable Media (Linux-based) if you need to do offline imaging or offline system deployment.

  1. Start Acronis Management Console and click Tools -> Create bootable media:

Symptoms

  1. You boot a machine with Acronis Cyber Backup Linux-based bootable media
  2. You start a backup wizard, click on Items to backup and select the entire machine
  3. The following warning appears:

    This machine cannot be selected directly.
    A previous agent version is installed on the machine.
    Use policy rules to select this machine for backup.

Symptoms

  1. You attempt to recover a virtual machine on Citrix XenServer 7.1 or 7.2 using bootable media or via Recovery option in Cyber Protection console. Backup is located in Acronis Cloud storage.
  2. Recovery from Cloud Storage hangs and does not continue.
  3. After media hangs, network on VM is disconnected (e.g. you are unable to connect to the machine via SSH or you can see network disconnect in system information collected from Acronis bootable media)

Cause

Symptoms

You installed Acronis True Image 2021 on macOS 11 Big Sur and created Acronis bootable media or Acronis Survival Kit.

When you attempt to boot from the created bootable media by pressing Option (Alt) while the Mac is starting, Acronis bootable media or Survival Kit does not appear in the list of devices to boot from.

Symptoms

  1. Acronis True Image 2021 is running on macOS 11 Big Sur
  2. When you attempt to create Acronis bootable media or Acronis Survival Kit, the operation fails with the following error:

    An error occurred while creating media.

Cause

Issue in the product.

Solution

Close the window with the error and run the operation again. On the second attempt, Acronis bootable media or Acronis Survival Kit should be created without errors.

Symptoms

  1. You're trying to create a WinPE media after installing the latest version of ADK deployment tools and Windows PE add-on,
  2. When browsing the source for WinPE / BartPE files in Bootable media builder, Bootable Media Builder keeps asking for Bart PE / WinPE files. The following error message is shown, even when the correct folder is selected:

The selected folder does not contain the required WinPE files.

Symptoms

You try to boot Gen2 Hyper-V VM with Acronis Bootable Media

Media fails to boot with the following message:

The image's hash and certificate are not allowed (DB)

No UEFI-compatible file system was found.

Cause

Secure Boot is enabled on the VM. Secure Boot prevents boot from a Linux bootloader in the ISO file (the Linux bootloader neither signed nor certified by Microsoft).

This issue is not specific to Acronis Bootable Media. 

Symptoms

  1. You create Linux-based Acronis Bootable media or download ISO image from Account or upload bootable components to Acronis PXE Server
  2. When trying to boot the target machine from this media, you see the following message:

    Video mode setup error: Error 0x1480006: The video framebuffer parameters are invalid

Cause

Known issue with Acronis UEFI loader.

  •  macOS 10.14 or newer

Symptoms

  1. You run Rescue Media Builder and select the disk that you want to make bootable.
  2. You get the following error:

    An error occurred while creating media. Failed to create bootable media by using Apple Software Restore

Cause

Most likely, access to removable volumes was explicitly denied by the user for Media Builder.

This article describes how to boot from Acronis bootable media or Survival Kit.

The full version of Acronis Bootable Rescue Media uses Linux environment, the naming convention of which is different from Windows

Symptoms

  1. You download a Bootable media and get a registration token for it
  2. You boot a machine with the Bootable media and register the media on Management Server with the registration token
  3. Go to Recovery and select Cloud vault. No backups are shown and the following message appears:

    The selected location does not contain backed up data

Cause

Issue in the product.

Solution

This issue has been fixed in Acronis Cyber Protect 21.10.

Symptoms

  1. You attempt to create Acronis Bootable Media on a Mac with Apple silicon processor
  2. Bootable media creation fails with:

    An error occurred while creating media. Cannot format the destination disk

This article applies only to Macs with Apple silicon processors. If you encountered this error on different hardware, the issue is not covered in this article and requires investigation

Cause

Issue in the product.

Symptoms

You experience one or more of the following issues when booting the machine with Acronis Bootable media (or Survival Kit):

  • GUI elements or text are too small on a high-resolution display
  • Program GUI is distorted
  • Black screen is shown after boot menu

Cause

Proper drivers for video adapter were not added to bootable media: either no drivers are available or they are added incorrectly.

You can create a rescue bootable media - a standalone version of Acronis Cyber Protect Home Office(formerly Acronis True Image) that you can use to boot a crashed machine or a machine without any operating system and restore an image of your system. Follow the instructions below to create a bootable media.

Introduction

This article instructs how to use Acronis Cyber Protect Home Office (formerly Acronis True Image) to recover Windows from a boot failure.

Use the present article only if the system is damaged to a state when you can't get to the Desktop screen and launch Acronis Cyber Protect Home Office normally. If you are able to access the program within running Windows, please follow instructions from that article instead.

Symptoms

  • You created a bootable media and registered it in the Cyber Protection console
  • When starting a remote recovery via the media, you receive the following error:

Make sure to specify a license key during bootable media creation, otherwise backup will not be available.
It is not possible to back up a macOS system using Bootable media.

Symptoms

Error "Video mode setup error: Error 0x1400006: Invalid video framebuffer parameters" occurs at computer boot time when you try one of the following:

  • Boot the computer from Acronis bootable media (Linux-based)
  • Use F11 feature (Acronis Startup Recovery Manager)
  • Perform a recovery, disk cloning or other operation, and a computer reboot was requested
