42126: Acronis Cyber Backup Advanced: Manually Detaching a Managed Vault

Last update: 01-05-2020

Manually detaching a managed vault

Introduction

In some cases it is required to manually detach a managed vault from the Storage Node and Management Server: when the Storage Node is offline; when automatic detachment fails or requires too much time; when Management Server is unavailable etc.

In all other cases, when it is possible, use a detach function in the Management Server. See help topic: Actions on centralized vaults - Detach a managed vault.

(!) The detach/attach function is not supported for tape vaults. They can only be deleted, so it is not recommended to detach these vaults manually.

Solution

  1. Go to Services (Start-Run -> services.msc) -> Stop Acronis Storage Node Service
  2. Go to the following folder:

    Windows XP/2003: \Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Acronis\BackupAndRecovery\ASN\.meta
    Windows Vista/7/2008/2008 R2: \ProgramData\Acronis\BackupAndRecovery\ASN\.meta

  3. There are files with GUIDs in their names. Each file belongs to one vault. Here is an example of contents:

    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" ?>
    <metainfo id="C920CF08-E5E4-4BF0-8582-C3E7F1F3A34D" type="location">
     <admin_ids>
         S-1-5-32-544
     </admin_ids>
     <attached_to>
         25BEA32C-1D99-4A83-8591-FED22C7E1ACB
     </attached_to>
     <catalog_options>
         0
     </catalog_options>
     <compression_level>
      none
     </compression_level>
     <deduplicated>
         0
     </deduplicated>
     <description />
     <disk_store_data_size>
         0
     </disk_store_data_size>
     <disk_store_deleted_data_size>
         0
     </disk_store_deleted_data_size>
     <encryption_method>
         0
     </encryption_method>
     <file_store_data_size>
         0
     </file_store_data_size>
     <file_store_deleted_data_size>
         0
     </file_store_deleted_data_size>
     <is_disk_data_store_created>
         0
     </is_disk_data_store_created>
     <is_file_data_store_created>
         0
     </is_file_data_store_created>
     <is_tape_location>
         0
     </is_tape_location>
     <is_unified_data_store_created>
         0
     </is_unified_data_store_created>
     <location_id>
         C920CF08-E5E4-4BF0-8582-C3E7F1F3A34D
     </location_id>
     <location_version>
         abr11_7
     </location_version>
     <name>
         Vault_Name
     </name>
     <platform>
      windows
     </platform>
     <unified_store_data_size>
      0
     </unified_store_data_size>
     <unified_store_deleted_data_size>
      0
     </unified_store_deleted_data_size>
     <user_ids>
         S-1-1-0
     </user_ids>
    </metainfo>

  4. Find the file where the <name/> tag corresponds to the vault you want to remove.
  5. Remember the GUID of this vault (location_id as well as the file name): C920CF08-E5E4-4BF0-8582-C3E7F1F3A34D
  6. Go to the following folder

    Windows XP/2003: \Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Acronis\BackupAndRecovery\ASN\VaultMetadataDatabases
    Windows Vista/7/2008/2008 R2: \ProgramData\Acronis\BackupAndRecovery\ASN\VaultMetadataDatabases

  7. Find the corresponding database file, its name contains GUID + "_L" suffix + "FDB" extensionC920CF08-E5E4-4BF0-8582-C3E7F1F3A34D_L.FDB.
  8. Move files C920CF08-E5E4-4BF0-8582-C3E7F1F3A34D and C920CF08-E5E4-4BF0-8582-C3E7F1F3A34D_L.FDB from Steps 5 and 7 to a temporary folder. These files should no longer be present in the corresponding folders.

    *If you want the vault database to be re-used when re-attaching the vault later, move it to the vault's root folder, in this case to "D:\".

  9. Go to Services -> Start Acronis Storage Node Service. The vault will now disappear from Storage Nodes -> Details -> Vaults Management Server view.
  10. Go to the Storage Node view and remove the Storage Node from the Management Server.
  11. Add the Storage Node to the Management Server. Now the vault registration will be also deleted from the Management Server and the Vaults view of the Management Server will not show the vault anymore.
