The recommendation is to disable drive monitoring

This article applies to:

  • Acronis Drive Monitor

Symptoms

The calculated disk's health spontaneously changes between 100 and 0 percents, if Acronis Drive monitor is installed on VMware virtual machine. As a result, Acronis Drive Monitor may report false alerts about hard disk’s problems or may launch a backup operation due to hardware alerts.

Cause

The health cannot be calculated correctly because VMware virtual disks do not report any useful information about your computer's physical disks' states. This is caused by a special way of reporting some S.M.A.R.T. parameters: VMware reports the parameter's value decreasing below the warning threshold, which is considered by S.M.A.R.T. interface as a potential hardware problem.

Solution

Disable disk monitoring when using Acronis Drive Monitor on VMware virtual disks since a disk health cannot be calculated correctly. To do this, please go to Disks monitoring in Options menu, select a virtual disk from the list and click Change, then clear both check boxes (monitoring via S.M.A.R.T. and custom script). Click OK to save changes.
