9468: Error "Archive cannot be opened" Appears during Windows Search after Downgrading to Acronis True Image Echo

Acronis True Image Echo cannot open archives created by Acronis Backup & Recovery 10

Symptoms

  1. You install Acronis Backup & Recovery 10 in Windows and create a backup;
  2. You uninstall Acronis Backup & Recovery 10 and install Acronis True Image Echo instead;
  3. During Windows Search, backup archives created by Acronis Backup & Recovery 10 generate an error similar to the following one:

    An error occurred while opening the backup archive.
    Cannot continue the operation due to either the backup is corrupted or it is used by another process, for example the backup has been mounted as a disk.

Cause

Acronis True Image Echo cannot open archives created with Acronis Backup & Recovery 10.

During search, Windows uses Acronis shell extension to search inside backup archives. Shell extension of Acronis True Image Echo is not compatible with TIB files created by Acronis Backup & Recovery 10.

Solution

If you do not need archives created with Acronis Backup & Recovery 10, you can delete them.

If you want to keep the archives created with Acronis Backup & Recovery 10, then you can install Acronis Backup & Recovery Management Console. This workaround will eliminate the error. This component does not require license and allows you to explore backup archives created with Acronis Backup & Recovery 10.
