When you try to assign an Acronis Cyber Protect license for Windows Server Essentials to a machine with Windows Server 2022 Essentials, the operation fails with:

There is no free license suitable for the device.

Backup or a different operation with Windows Server 2022 Essentials machine fails with

The protection plan cannot be run as the device has no license

It is expected behavior for  Windows Server Essentials 2022 to show up as Standard version, as the operation system is identical with the Standard Version, but with the following differences.

  • Windows Server 2022 Essentials is available with DOEM and ROK license.
  • Windows Server 2022 Essentials  can be installed on server with up to 10 cores and 1 VM on single-socket servers.
  • Windows Server 2022 Essentials is limited to a maximum of 25 users and 50 devices.
  • Additional CAL-s are needed if Windows Server 2022 Essentials will be used as RDS Host.
  • Windows Server 2022 Essentials can be used as Hyper-V Host and includes only one virtual machine as licensed.

In all other aspects Windows Server 2022 Essentials is identical with Windows Server 2022 Standard and after installation it will be recognized as Standard Version, anyway with all limitations mentioned. (as Operating System for small businesses)
