Acronis Backup & Recovery shows the "Failed to create the backup plan" error message when trying to back up to\restore from a subfolder on a network share
This article applies to:
- All Acronis Backup & Recovery 10 Editions - both Windows and Bootable Media environments
- You run the product and click on the Back up button to create a backup plan, or Recover to run the restore procedure.
- On the Archive step, you select as a backup location via the tree view pane a network share that has subfolders, the names of which have capital letters:
- The execution of the backup task fails with the error messages in the Acronis Management Console as below:

You have selected the network subfolder via the tree view pane. In this case, Acronis Backup & Recovery 10 converts all upper case letters in the name of a parent network folder into lower case.
On the screenshot below, compare the letter case of folders in the folder tree pane and in the Path field. The name of the parent folder Folder in the folder tree pane starts with a capital letter; however, the same folder name in the Path field starts with a lowercase letter.
On the Archive step in the Back up or Recover wizards, select the network backup location in the tree view pane and correct the case of the characters manually in the Path field. Alternatively, type in the full path to the network backup location paying attention to the letter case.
This is a known issue in the product.
