How to recover your system under macOS 11, macOS 12 and macOS 13
Introduction
A new way to mount system partitions was implemented starting with macOS 11 Big Sur, requiring a special recovery procedure when using Acronis Cyber Protect Home Office (formerly Acronis True Image).
Files/folders recovery can be done as usual, no additional downloads required.
Solution
If you recover your system using bootable media, in order to complete the recovery operation you must install macOS after Acronis Cyber Protect Home Office completes the recovery operation. Before starting the recovery process, Acronis bootable media checks if an internet connection is available.
If an Internet connection is available:
- If the system partition is selected for recovery, Acronis Cyber Protect Home Office requests to install macOS above the restored data. Click Restore with Reboot
- After restoring the data from backup, the system will automatically download and reinstall macOS above the restored data.
- When the installation is finished, the system will reboot automatically. Recovery is complete
If Internet connection is not available :
- Acronis Cyber Protect Home Office provides the possibility to retry or cancel the operation. If the operation is canceled, recovery does not start
If internet connection is lost during the recovery process, recovery must be started from scratch.
