    Upgrade paths

    The following table describes upgrade options for different versions of Acronis Cyber Backup. 

    Installed version How to upgrade
    Acronis Cyber Backup 12.5 Update 4 (build 12730) or higher Direct upgrade: install Acronis Cyber Protect 15 over the existing configuration. Settings will be kept.
    Acronis Cyber Backup 12.5 Update 3 or lower Upgrade to Acronis Cyber Backup 12.5 Update 4 (build 12730) or higher, then install Acronis Cyber Protect 15.
    Acronis Backup 11.7/11.5

    Clean installation is recommended.

    To keep settings, upgrade to Acronis Cyber Backup 12.5 Update 4 (build 12730) or higher, then install Acronis Cyber Protect 15.

    Acronis Backup & Recovery 11 and 10

    Clean installation is recommended.

    Upgrade is possible via upgrade to Acronis Backup 11.7.

    True Image Enterprise 9.7 and below     Clean installation. The old product must be uninstalled. No settings will be saved.
    Acronis Backup for VMware 9     Clean installation. The old product must be uninstalled. No settings will be saved.
    Acronis True Image (any version) Clean installation. The old product must be uninstalled. No settings will be saved.

    Before any management server upgrades, make sure you have a backup of your management server and external SQL database (if external database is used). This will allow you to roll back to the original configuration in case of issues during or after upgrade.
    A system restart may be required during installation or update. We recommend planning a maintenance window for installing Acronis Cyber Protect 15.

    Acronis Cyber Backup 12.5 Update 4 (Build 12730) or later

    Acronis Cyber Protect 15 installer will upgrade the product directly during installation. Launch Acronis Cyber Protect 15 installation file and follow the installation wizard.

    1. Back up Acronis Management Server machine and external SQL database (if external database is used by Acronis Management Server)
    2. On the machine where Acronis Management Server is installed, run Acronis Cyber Protect 15 installation file and follow the on-screen instructions. After upgrade, make sure that groups, agents, and plans have been transferred.
    3. Once Acronis Management Server is upgraded, run Acronis Cyber Protect 15 installation file on the machine where Acronis Storage Node, if any, is installed and follow on-screen instructions. After upgrade, make sure that vaults (named 'locations' in v. 12.5) have been transferred.
    4. Once Acronis Storage Node is upgraded, upgrade Acronis agents either remotely from the Management server or locally on the Agent machines. After upgrade, make sure that agents are online in the management server and plans are assigned to the machines.  

    Acronis Cyber Backup 12.5 Update 3 or lower

    Direct upgrade to Acronis Cyber Protect 15 is not supported. 

    To preserve the existing configuration, we recommend to update to Acronis Cyber Protect 12.5 Update 4 or higher, and then perform a direct upgrade to Acronis Cyber Protect 15:

    1. Backup your Management Server and external SQL database (if external database is used)
    2. Upgrade your Management Server to a newer version ready for further upgrades: e.g. upgrade your Acronis Cyber Backup 12.5 Update 3.2 build 11010 to the latest build of Acronis Cyber Backup 12.5: see Acronis Cyber Backup 12.5 and 12: updating to the latest build
    3. Upgrade all the agents to the same build as Management Server 
    4. On the machine where Acronis Management Server is installed, run Acronis Cyber Protect 15 installation file and follow the on-screen instructions. After upgrade, make sure that groups, agents, and plans have been transferred. Then upgrade Storage Node (if present) and all agents to the same build as Management Server.

    Acronis Backup 11.7/11.5

    Direct upgrade to Acronis Cyber Protect 15 is not supported. In general, if the product is unsupported for a direct upgrade, we recommend uninstalling your existing version and installing Acronis Cyber Protect 15.

    Alternatively, upgrade to Acronis Cyber Backup 12.5 Update 4 first, and then upgrade to Acronis Cyber Protect 15 if you want to preserve configuration and settings:

    Acronis Backup & Recovery 10 & 11

    Direct upgrade to Acronis Cyber Protect 15 is not supported. In general, if the product is unsupported for a direct upgrade, we recommend uninstalling your existing version and installing Acronis Cyber Protect 15.

    Alternatively, upgrade to Acronis Backup 11.7 first, and then follow the instructions for upgrade from Acronis Backup 11.7.

    Acronis True Image 9.7 and older

    It is not possible to upgrade to Acronis Cyber Protect 15 directly from Acronis True Image 9.7/9.5 or older. Please uninstall your existing version and perform a clean install of Acronis Cyber Protect 15.

    Acronis True Image (Personal product)

    Acronis True Image 2021 and earlier versions of Acronis True Image cannot be upgraded to Acronis Cyber Protect 15 directly and there is no way to import tasks or other settings to Acronis Cyber Protect 15.

    To install Acronis Cyber Protect 15, first, uninstall Acronis True Image via Control Panel > Programs and features, reboot your computer then proceed with installing Acronis Cyber Protect 15.

    In case you encounter issues during or after installation, please collect a system report as described in How to collect system information and contact Acronis Customer Central. If necessary, recover the system from a previously created backup.
