'Version 12' backup format (archive3) is the main archive type for Acronis Cyber Protect Cloud. It is used to back up any data, including mobile data, applications, application-aware, Mac OS, Oracle DB, Office365 mailboxes, etc.

Archive file structure

An archive of 'version 12' format can use one of these schemes:

  • Always incremental (available for cloud backup), which consists of 1 full backup and subsequent incremental backups written into 1 .tibx file
  • Multi-full (available for both cloud and local backup), which consists of multiple chains of full backups and subsequest incremental and/or differential backups written into multiple .tibx files (1 .tibx file per 1 chain)

This article describes archive structure for multi-full scheme in a local storage (and gives an example for 'weekly full, daily incremental' schedule).

Structure will be:

  1. Each new full backup triggers new backup chain written into a new file. Each new file has  -000N added to the end of the file name, where N starts from 1. If there are multiple full backups (= multiple chains), then they will appear in ArchiveName.tibx + ArchiveName-0001.tibx + ArchiveName-0002.tibx + … + ArchiveName-000[N].tibx files. If the size of a file stored in a local or network (SMB) folder exceeds 200 GB, the file is split to 200-GB files by default.
  2. A small 12kb file appears after retention rules run and remove the very first chain. This file will remain in the archive and should not be deleted as it contains the metadata of the archive. Do not delete the first .tibx file (12KB).

Example

  • Weekly full, daily incremental scheme. All days selected in schedule executed once per day
  • Backup filename: “MyMachineBackup-A”
  • Retention rules: keep 1 backup
