64232: Acronis Cloud Migration: How to Create Azure App Registration for Azure Connection in Cloud Migration

This article contains all steps required to create a new App Registration in Azure for connection details in Cloud Migration as well as linking the App to the desired Azure Subscription.


  • Acronis Cloud Migration

Step 1:

Within the Azure Portal, search and open App Registrations

Click the '+ New registration' button.

Step 2:

This will open the Register an application window.

Name: Something relevant and self-explanatory (eg. Cloud Migration)

Redirect URL: This must start with 'https://' then followed by another relevant title (one word). (eg. AcronisMigration)

Click Register once you're happy with the details.

Step 3:

From the Overview Tab you will need to make a note of the Application (client) ID highlighted in blue and the Directory (tenant) ID highlighted in red. 

Step 4:

In Certificates & secrets, click 'New client secret'. Enter a Description and an Expire time of your choosing and click Add.

Take a note of the Client Secret value you have just created

Step 5:

In the Azure portal, search and click 'Subscriptions'. Find and select the desired subscription from your list.

Click 'Access control (IAM)' on the left navigation pane and click the Add button.

The 'Add Permissions' 'sideblade' opens;

Role: Contributor

Assign Access to: Leave this default

Select: The name of your newly created application as named in Step 2

Click on your application and click save.

Step 6:

In the Azure Connection section, the Cloud Migration tool is going to ask for 3 values that you would have noted in the previous steps in the Azure portal:

Tenant Name = Directory (tenant) ID (Created in Step 3)

Client ID = Application (client) ID (Created in Step 3)

Client Secret = Client Secret Value (Created in Step 4)

Step 7:

In Azure Subscription, select the relevant subscription and click next.

Step 8:

Specify the Azure configuration details for the Resource Group, Storage Account and Storage Key. Please ensure these are created in Azure against the correct Subscription. This information can be found in the Azure Portal under Resource groups & Storage Accounts.

Step 9:

Review the import configuration values and ensure you enter/select a Network Interface name before clicking next

Step 10:

Select the disk controllers & drives your wish to convert and click next. Review the Summary and and click finish to start your conversion to Azure.
