62205: Acronis True Image 2019 and 2020: no sound, USB devices do not work in clone Windows

use Google Translate

Operating Systems:

Last update: 31-05-2021

Symptom

  1. "Clone Disk" feature of Acronis True Image 2019 is used.
  2. Before the cloning starts, source and destination disks are connected using different interfaces, for example, the source is an internal SATA disk and the destination is an external USB disk.
  3. The operating system is Windows XP, 7 or 8.
  4. You boot the clone system after the disk cloning finishes.
  5. There is no sound and/or USB devices do not work.

Cause

Known issue with the disk cloning tool in Acronis True Image, occurring sporadically.

Solution

Method 1. Re-install the drivers for non-working devices

Download the drivers for the devices that stopped working from the computer manufacturer's website and install them, reboot the computer.

Method 2. Use backup and recovery procedure instead of cloning

Rather than using "Clone disk" tool, use "Backup" feature to create a disk image with Windows, and the restore it to the destination drive. This will require a third disk for storing the backup image file.

Method 3. Сonnect both source and destination disks using the same connection type

If your computer allows - there are two identical slots/ports available - then you can connect both source and destination disks the same way and then perform the cloning. E.g. connect both using SATA ports, or connect both to m.2 slots, or u.2, or other PCIe slot. With the same type of connection, the software will not run the commands that sometimes lead to the described symptoms.

More information

It is recommended to use the latest build of Acronis True Image for cloning, as Acronis Development team continuously works on improving cloning functionality.
