Symptoms

  1. After you install Acronis Backup 12.5 on the machine, certain USB drives/keys are not instantly detected. It takes 2-5 minutes for the drive to acquire a letter and be accessible in Windows Explorer.
  2. If you stop Acronis Managed Machine service, the same USB drives are detected instantly.

Cause

Hardware incompatibility: some specific devices incorrectly process standard commands issued by Acronis product components.

Solution

To resolve the issue, do the following:

  1.  Open Windows Registry Editor: Start -> search -> type regedit.exe and press Enter.
  2. Create the following registry keys and subkeys:
    • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Acronis\KLib

      Type: REG_DWORD

      Name: DisableATAIDForExternal

      Value: 1

    • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Acronis\KLib

      Type: REG_DWORD

      Name: DisableATAIDForExternal

      Value: 1

    • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Acronis\KLib

      Type: REG_DWORD

      Name: DisableReadCap16

      Value: 1

    • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Acronis\KLib

      Type: REG_DWORD

      Name: DisableReadCap16

      Value: 1

  3. Restart the machine
