Introduction
You can transfer your existing Acronis True Image license to a new computer, if the previously used computer becomes retired and is no longer used. In other cases, a new Acronis license must be bought for the new computer.
This should not be confused with moving Acronis True Image license to a different Acronis account.
In March 2022, Acronis updated the cloud servers to authenticate users using only newer and more secure connection methods and reject connections that use older less secure methods. We rebuilt all versions of the product starting with Acronis True Image 2017 at the beginning of the year to support this important change. For all products older than Acronis True Image 2017, transferring a license now requires the login. Login is not required for license activation, only for transfer.

How to move a license to another PC
- Uninstall Acronis True Image from the computer that will be no longer used (if the computer is broken or otherwise unavailable, you can skip this step)
- Download and install Acronis True Image on the new computer.
- Log in to your Acronis account to activate Acronis True Image on the new computer:
- If your serial number is already registered in the same Acronis account (the most common scenario), the software will detect the license automatically. If the serial number is not registered yet, click Enter serial number and manually specify your serial number.
- Click on the Account tab to check the license activation status. Unless you have a license pack (3 or 5 computers) with licenses that have never been used yet, you will see a message "You've exceeded the maximum number of activations for this serial number". The message tells that the license should be reactivated on that new computer, which is a standard procedure. The displayed message does not mean any problem with the license - it remains valid and fully usable - just needing re-activation on the new computer (see below).
- Click the button Resolve problem and follow on-screen instructions, completing the transfer:
Instructions for Acronis True Image 2016 and older versions
Use the Offline activation flow to move your license. Follow the below instructions:
- Uninstall Acronis True Image from the computer that will be no longer used (if the computer is broken or otherwise unavailable, you can skip this step)
- Download and install Acronis True Image on the new computer.
- To use the Offline activation method, switch off the internet on the machine with Acronis True Image installed.
- Start Acronis True Image and navigate to the Account tab.
With the internet connection turned off, you shall see the Activate offline button. Click on it and proceed to the Step 5.
If you don't see Activate offline button, click on Resolve problem and follow the below instructions.
- Return to the Account tab. Now you can select the Offline activation method to transfer the license.
- The program will generate an installation code. It uniquely identifies the computer where Acronis True Image is installed and what license key was specified. Save your installation code to a file by clicking the “Save to file” button.
- Turn on the internet connection and navigate to http://www.acronis.com/activation/.

Enter the installation code generated in the previous step. and click "Get activation code".
- Select the PC you want to move the license from. On the next screen, select the PC you want to transfer the license to.
- Save the activation code.
- In Acronis True Image, insert the activation code.
- You have successfully transferred the license to another PC.
