On-premise deployment

In on-premise deployment, you need to update both management components and agents.

Update Acronis Management Server first:

  1. Start the backup management console. In All devices, click Add:
  2. Select Windows or Linux depending on where Acronis Management Server is installed:
  3. Click Download to download the latest build:

    If your network is not connected to the internet, you need to download the installation file on a machine that has internet access. Log in to your Acronis account at Acronis website and download the latest build of Acronis Backup. Follow this article, if you need detailed instructions on how to download the latest build.
  4. On the machine where Acronis Management Server is installed, run the installation file and click Update:
  5. Wait until the update is completed.

Now you can update remote agents. You can check which agents require update in Settings -> Agents. Check the Agent version column.

If Acronis Management Server is installed on a Windows Machine

To update a Virtual Appliance:
  1. In Settings -> Agents, select the appliance and click Delete to remove it from the management server.
  2. In All devices, click Add and select VMware ESXi.
  3. Specify your host or vCenter and click Deploy.
  4. An updated Virtual Appliance will be deployed.

You do not need to recreate or re-assign backup tasks. You can delete the old Virtual Appliance from the host.

Having Acronis Management Server installed in Windows, you can update agents remotely:

  1. In All devices, click Add:
  2. Select the operating system of the agent your want to update:
  3. Specify the machine name or IP address of the agent you want to update:
  4. Click Add:
  5. Wait until the update is completed.

If Acronis Management Server is installed on a Linux machine

To update a Virtual Appliance:
  1. In Settings -> Agents, select the appliance and click Delete to remove it from the management server.
  2. Deploy a new Virtual Appliance from an OVF template and specify the management server.

Having Acronis Management Server installed in Linux, you need to update agent locally:

  1. In All devices, click Add:
  2. Select the operating system of the agent your want to update:
  3. Click Download:
  4. Copy the downloaded installation file to the agent machine.
  5. Double-click the installation file to run it.
  6. Click Update:
  7. Wait until the update is completed.

Cloud deployment

In cloud deployment, all management components are located in Acronis data centers and thus are updated automatically. You only need to update agents, once a new build is available.

  1. In backup management console, navigate to Settings, and then click Agents.
  2. A list of all agents registered in the current account is displayed. Check the Agent version column. Outdated agents are marked with an exclamation point:
  3. Click an outdated agent to select it (the machine must be online), and then click Update:

The latest build will be downloaded and installed on the selected machine.

If the Update agent option is not available in your account:

  1. Navigate to All devices, and then click Add:
  2. Select the installation file(s) based on the operating system(s) of machines where Acronis agent(s) are installed.
  3. Download the installation file(s).
  4. Run installation file(s) on the agent machine(s). Click Update.
  5. Wait until the update completes.
