58481: Acronis Disaster Recovery Service: FalconStor LTS Retention Policy Types

DR Storage Only

  1. All backups are stored on NSS.
  2. Nothing is copied to LTS.
  3. Retention policy is applied on NSS.
  4. Retention is configured in terms of hourly snapshots, one snapshot per each daily, weekly and monthly bucket.

Long Term Storage Only

  1. Initially, backups are stored on NSS and managed by NSS.
  2. DR retention policy is NOT applied to the NSS.
  3. NSS removes oldest snapshots once the limit is reached. Hard limit for latest NSS version is 1000, but it could be decreased manually in the NSS settings (contact Acronis Customer Central for assistance).
  4. Weekly and monthly snapshots (depending on the retention policy) are copied to the Long Term Storage.
  5. Periodically, the newest snapshot on NSS is compared to the latest snapshot on LTS;  if the difference between them exceeds 1 week (for retentions with weekly snapshots > 0, otherwise 1 month), this snapshot is copied to the Long Term Storage.
  6. DR retention policy is applied on LTS (only “weekly” and “monthly” parameters are configured).

DR Storage Only with copy to Long Term Storage

This retention policy should be used temporarily during the transition from "DR Storage Only" to "Long Term Storage Only" while the initial data is copied from NSS to LTS. It is NOT designed for permanent usage. Contact Acronis Customer Central for assistance in setup.

  1. Snapshots from "weekly" and "monthly" buckets are copied from NSS to LTS.

Pay attention to the number of daily snapshots configured. For example, in "60m x 24h 30d 4w 12m" retention policy, the most recent "weekly" snapshot is 24hours+30days = 31 days old.
  2. Retention policy is applied on NSS.
  3. Retention policy is NOT applied on LTS.

Disabled

  1. Nothing is copied from NSS to LTS.
  2. Retention policy is NOT applied (neither on NSS not on LTS).
  3. NSS removes older snapshots once the limit is reached. Hard limit for the latest NSS version is 1000, but it could be decreased manually in the NSS configuration.
