A guide on how to migrate from Access for Android version 3.2 to the newest version.
Introduction
Since Acronis Access 7.0 is regarded as a separate app by the Google Play store, a straight upgrade from Access 3.2 to Access 7.0 through the app store is not possible. However, since most of your files are stored on your company's Access Server, you only have to migrate any local files to the new app and you can start using it. The necessary procedures are summarized below:
- Enrolling in management
- If you have been previously enrolled in client management, you will have to re-enroll with the new app. If your Acronis Access server requires PIN numbers for authentication, contact your administrator to provide you with a new one. A PIN used by the old app will not work.
- If you have not been enrolled in client management, you will have to manually re-add all Servers, Sync folders and Network folders in the new app.
- Migrating data from the old app to the new one:
- All Servers, Network folders and Sync folders assigned to your user or group policy will be available once you enroll the new app in client management.
- Any Sync folders you have created through the app have to be manually re-created in the new app. Their content will be downloaded again so please make sure you have enough free space. These will not be automatically migrated since they are not controlled by the Access server.
- Any Network folders you will have provisioned through the app have to be manually provisioned again in the new app. These will not be automatically migrated since they are not controlled by the Access server.
- Any local data in the On My Android section will have to be moved manually. You can send the items to the new app via the Export feature.
- Deleting the old app
- Please delete the old app only after being completely certain that you have successfully migrated all important content from the old app to the new one. Files stored locally in the old Acronis Access app cannot be retrieved if you delete it.
Solution
For users managed by Acronis Access:
- Open the Google Play store, find the Acronis Access 7.0 app and install it.
- Open the new app and enroll in client management. If a PIN is required, contact your Acronis Access administrator to supply you with one.
- Close the new app and open the old app.
- Sync all files and/or folders to make sure that all of your local changes are saved on your server(s).
- Open the On My Android section, tap the pencil icon and select all files and folders that you wish to migrate to the new app.
- From the menu, select Export and select the new Acronis Access app from the list. If you tap Export and you get redirected to another app, that means that it is the default app for that action. You will have to remove the app's file association from the Settings - > Apps menu before you are able to select Acronis Access.
- Once you have selected Acronis Access, you will be redirected to the new app.
- Navigate to the desired folder, where you want to migrate the files (e.g. On My Android) and tap Paste. This will transfer all files that were stored in the old Acronis Access app. Everything else will be available via your Acronis Access server(s).
- All Servers, Network and Sync folders that are assigned to your user or group policy by the Acronis Access administrator will automatically be available in the new Android Access app. Any data in an assigned sync folders will be downloaded to the new app so make sure you have enough space on the device.
- If you had any self-provisioned Network folders, they will not be automatically migrated. Open the Network section and tap the + button.
- Select Add Network Folder and enter the UNC path to the desired Network folder. Optionally, add a Display Name.
- If you had added any Access Servers manually, you will have to manually add them in the new app. Open the Network section and tap the + button.
- Select Add Server, enter the address of the desired server and tap Next.
- Enter your username and tap on the checkmark.
- Done! Your new Acronis Access app is now ready for use.
For users not enrolled in management
- Open the Google Play store, find the Acronis Access 7.0 app and install it.
- Open the new app, tap Enroll and enter the address of your Gateway server. If you wish to enroll in management with the new app, please follow the steps in For users managed by Acronis Access.
You will have to remove the app's file association from the Settings -> Apps menu before you are able to select Acronis Access.
- Once you have selected Acronis Access, you will be redirected to the new app.
- Navigate to the desired folder, where you want to migrate the files (e.g. On My Android) and tap Paste. This will transfer all files that were stored in the old Acronis Access app.
- Since you are not managed by an Acronis Access server, you will have to add all Server, Network folders and Sync folders manually in the new app.
