58249: Acronis True Image 2016: Update to Build 6571 Fails with "Access is denied"

Symptoms

  1. You have Acronis True Image 2016 installed and update it to build 6571.
  2. Installation fails with error "Access is denied".

Solution 1

  1. Open the installation log (see this article, if you need help finding the installation log).
  2. Search for this message:
    MsiFileTrackerInstall64_file_tracker_api__I returned actual error code 1603
  3. If you see this error message in the log, download file_tracker_setup_2501.zip, unpack, and run it. After the component is installed, reattempt the installation of build 6571.
    If you don't see this error, check other solutions below.

Solution 2

  1. Open the installation log (see this article, if you need help finding the installation log).
  2. Search for this message:
    MsiVirtualFileInstall64_virtual_file_component__I returned actual error code 1603
  3. If you see this error in the log, your antivirus software is blocking the update. Temporary disable antivirus and reattempt the installation of build 6571.
    If you don't see this error, check the solution below.

Solution 3

Uninstall the current build of Acronis True Image, and then install build 6571. Your existing backups will be detected during the installation of build 6571.
