A machine/device/website is considered protected as long as at least one backup plan is applied to it. A mobile device becomes protected after the first backup. An Microsoft 365 seat is considered protected as long as at least one backup plan is applied to the user's mailbox or OneDrive. When the cloud storage quota overage is exceeded, backups fail. When the overage for a number of devices is exceeded, the user cannot apply a backup plan to more devices.

Cloud storage

Cloud storage available to end-users is defined by Storage quota and Overage.

Storage quota is the amount of space provided to a EUC or an account in a EUC for storing backups. If this value is exceeded, the group administrator and the administrators of the parent group will receive an email notification. Cloud backups will continue until overage is reached.

Overage is the amount of extra space provided to a EUC or an account in a EUC for storing backups while actions to inform end-users about exceeding storage quota, arrange payments and/or enlarge storage quota can be taken. When the overage is exceeded, the end-user, the group administrator and the administrators of the parent group will receive an email notifications (once a day). The first cloud backup that exceeds the overage will fail.

To set up or change a storage quota or an overage quota see this article.

Local storage

Starting with version 7.7, local storage available to end-users is defined by Storage quota. Local storage includes the following backup destinations:

  • Local folders
  • Network folders
  • NFS folders
  • Secure Zone

Storage quota is the amount of space provided to a EUC or an account in a EUC for storing backups. If this value is exceeded, the group administrator and the administrators of the parent group will receive an email notification. By default, “Local backup” quotas for all existing customers and sub-partners are set to unlimited. See details of how local storage usage is calculated in this article.

Currently, the overage is unlimited for local backups; the backups will continue.

You can adjust or disable quotas as described in this article.

Devices

Number of devices that can be protected is defined by Physical workstations, Physical servers, Virtual machines, Mobile Devices, Web hosting servers, Websites quotas and overage. When the quota is exceeded, a notification is sent. When the overage is exceeded, end users will not be able to protect more machines of this type. If a quota is set to 0, end users will not be able to download the installation package for this type of machine and will not be able to protect them.

To set up or change machines quotas or overage see this article.

See details on VM quota usage in this article.

See details on SQL backup in this article.

Cloud data sources

Microsoft Teams: one Team quota is consumed when a protection plan is applied to the team (regardless of the number of team members); one Seat quota is consumed when a protection plan is applied to the seat (user) to back up mailbox or OneDrive.
