39629: Can I change the IP address of my Server while the Acronis Files Connect Service is running?

Question:

Can I change the IP address of my Server while the Acronis Files Connect (formerly ExtremeZ-IP) Service is running?

Answer:

Changing the IP Address of a Server while the Acronis Files Connect Service is running is not recommended as some Customers have reported that CPU spikes occur until the Acronis Files Connect Service is restarted. The recommendation is to stop the Acronis Files Connect Service from the Services Control Panel. After changing the IP Address you can restart the Acronis Files Connect Service.

For Clusters:

  1. Take the Acronis Files Connect Service instance(s) offline from within the Cluster Administrator.
  2. Edit dependencies (Network Name and IP) for the given instance(s) of Acronis Files Connect.
  3. Bring the Acronis Files Connect Service instance(s) back online.

For Multihomed Servers:

If you specified the IPv4 or IPv6 Addresses which Acronis Files Connect uses via the registry, i.e.

\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\ExtremeZ-IP\Parameters4\NonRefreshable\IPAddress

\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\ExtremeZ-IP\Parameters4\NonRefreshable\IPv6Address

You must:

  1. Stop the Acronis Files Connect Service.
  2. Edit this key with the new IP Address.
  3. Restart the service.

Printer Behavior:

  • Printers built using the Zidgetâ„¢ will continue to work after changing the IP Address of your Print Server if they were created with a resolvable hostname.
  • Printers built using Bonjour discovery will continue to work after changing the IP Address of your Print Server if they were created with a resolvable hostname.
  • Printers built using Choose IP Print are created using an IP Address. Such printers will need to be recreated if the IP Address of the Print Server is changed.
