39551: Running the Acronis Files Connect or MassTransit Windows services as a Domain User

Summary:

In order to run Acronis Files Connect (formerly ExtremeZ-IP) or MassTransit or MassTransit Transporter Windows services under the credentials of a domain user, you must first allow the domain user the ability to "Act as part of the operating system."

Description:

Follow the steps below to do this (Note: That it usually takes a restart of the server before the changes will take effect):

  1. Click Start -> Run
  2. Type "gpedit.msc" and click OK
  3. Expand "Windows Settings"
  4. Expand "Security Settings"
  5. Expand "Local Policies"
  6. Click on "User Rights Assignment"
  7. Right-click "Act as part of the operating system" in the list and select "Properties"
  8. In this window, you can add users and group or remove them.
  9. Click OK and close all windows

Once you have added the user you will be running the service as, you must set the Acronis Files Connect or MassTransit or MassTransit Transporter Windows service to run as them. To do so, complete the following steps:

  1. Click Start -> Run
  2. Type "services.msc" and click OK
  3. Right-click "Acronis Files Connect File and Print Server" or "MassTransit" or "MassTransit Transporter" in the list and select "Properties"
  4. Choose the "Log On" tab
  5. Toggle the radio button to "This account:" and enter the credentials of the user above
  6. Click OK and close all windows

Note: These changes sometimes require that the computer be restarted.
