Backup of virtual machines hosting on failover cluster may fail with non-informative error messages if the user doesn't have enough privileges for the CSV

This article applies to:

  • Acronis Backup & Recovery 11

You have several servers with Hyper-V role and a cluster shared volume (CSV) where your virtual machines are running with high availability. You configure and run backup of your virtual machines. Backup fails with the error message:

Error occurred during a request for the parameter.
Failed to serialize object 'VirtualMachine'

The issue is caused by the fact that the user under which the Acronis Managed Machine service is running on some of your Hyper-V nodes has not enough privileges for your CSV.

Reinstall the Agent component on all the problem Hyper-V nodes. The installation wizard will prompt for the Acronis Managed Machine Service (Agent) account and you should specify an account of a domain user who has administrative privileges on all nodes of your Hyper-V cluster.
