Acronis Nonstop Backup is a near-CDP (Continuous Data Protection) feature that automatically backs up your system every 5 minutes

Description

Acronis Nonstop Backup is a near-CDP feature that provides protection of disks and files, as well as allows you to recover from disaster both entire disks and individual files and even their versions.

At the first start of Acronis Nonstop Backup it will create an initial image backup of the partitions or disks selected for protection. This may lower the machine's performance. After this the product will back up the so called deltas, which are the differences between the last backed up version of a file and the new one. Thus, a full backup is done once.

(!) Backups older than 24 hours are automatically consolidated in such a way that Acronis True Image Home will keep daily backups for the last 30 days and weekly backups until all Nonstop Backup storage space is used. The consolidation will be performed every day between midnight and 01:00 AM. The first consolidation will take place after the Nonstop Backup works not less than 24 hours. If you turn off the Nonstop Backup for some time, the consolidation will start after you turn it on again.

It is not possible to use the Acronis Online storage as a place to store the Acronis Nonstop Backup data.

(!) Acronis Nonstop Backup storage can only be created on a local hard drive or on locally attached drive (e.g. external USB disk). Network storage devices cannot be used for Acronis Nonstop Backup storage.

  • To remove the storage select the partition with the storage location and click Remove:

(!) This will remove only the backup data from the storage. Other data not related to Acronis Nonstop Backup will remain intact.

  • After everything is set and ready, click the power sign to turn on Acronis Nonstop Backup:

Acronis Nonstop Backup stays enabled even after restarting the computer. See also Recovering with Time Explorer of Acronis True Image Home 2010.

If you disable Acronis Nonstop Backup for a period of time during which there will be a considerable amount of changes (e.g. there will be new applications installed), the machine's performance may lower on the first instance of enabling Acronis Nonstop Backup, because it will be backing up all the changes since it last ran.

For better performance, Acronis Nonstop Backup files are automatically split into 1 GB chunks. These chunks are kept in the Time Explorer Storage folder. It is important not to remove or modify any files in this folder, otherwise the backup will be irrecoverable.
