This article describes how to manually remove all traces of Acronis Backup & Recovery 11 from Windows

You can always remove Acronis Backup & Recovery 11 components via Windows Control Panel.

  1. Deactivate Acronis Startup Recovery Manager (if you have it activated). See also Acronis Startup Recovery Manager;
  2. Remove Acronis Secure Zone if you have one on the machine. See also Deleting Acronis Secure Zone;
  3. Remove Acronis Backup Archive Explorer (Timounter). See also Removing Acronis Backup Archive Explorer;
  4. Remove SnapAPI drivers: 
    • Go to Start -> Run -> regedit, and verify that there are no snapman*tdrpman*fltsrv, timounter strings in the UpperFilters and LowerFilters of the following keys:
      Do not delete the keys!
    • If there are any, please remove them. Then you may reboot the machine.
  5. Delete all of the Acronis services (Start-Run) -> sc delete "Service Name":

    (!) Not all of them may be present in the system:

    • Acronis VSS Provider
    • MMS
    • AMS
    • AcronisAgent
    • AcronisPXE
    • AcrSch2Svc
    • AcronisFS
    • StorageNode
    • AcronisBackupServerService
    • GroupServer
    • ARSM
    • AmsWebServer
  6. Delete the databases:
    • Identify the value at SOFTWARE\Acronis\AMS\ConnectionStrings
    • Delete the databases
  7. Unregister VSS by issuing the following commands:
    • regsvr32.exe /u /s snapapivss.dll
    • regsvr32.exe /u /s vsscom.dll
    • regsvr32.exe /u /s vsscomproxy.dll
  8. Stop the following Acronis processes:
    • TimounterMonitor.exe
    • schedhlp.exe
    • TrayMonitor.exe
    • BackupAndRecoveryMonitor.exe
    • TrueImageMonitor.exe
  9. Stop the following Windows process:
    • explorer.exe
  10. Remove the following groups and users:
    • Acronis Centralized Admins
    • Acronis Remote Users
    • AcronisBackupServerUsers
    • All users that have the following in their names:
      • Acronis
      • AMS User
      • ASN User
      • Acronis Agent User
      • _acro_subst_user_
  11. Delete the following registry keys:


    • SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run\Acronis Scheduler2 Service
    • SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run\BackupAndRecoveryMonitor.exe
    • SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run\TrayMonitor.exe
    • SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run\AcronisTimounterMonitor

      • Note all the Installation Paths in <GUID>\InstallProperties\InstallLocation, where <GUID>\InstallProperties\Publisher has the value Acronis
      • Delete all the keys that have Installation Paths in their paths;
      • Delete all the keys that have "\Acronis\" in their paths

    User Profiles:

        • Go to SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList
        • Delete all the keys whose S-*\ProfileImagePath contains:
          • Acronis Agent User
          • AMS User
          • ASN User


      • Go to System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Environment
      • From the key Path delete all the paths that have Installation Paths
      • Do the same for the key HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Environment
      • Delete HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Acronis
  12. Deleting files and directories:
    • Go to %USERPROFILE%/../ and delete:
      • Acronis Agent User
      • AMS User
      • ASN User
      • All Users\Application Data\Acronis
    • Delete %ProgramFiles%\Acronis
    • Delete %CommonProgramFiles%\Acronis
    • Delete Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Acronis (XP, 2003) or ProgramData\Acronis (>= vista)
    • Delete %windir%\Acronis
    • Delete C:\Windows\System32\autoprnt.exe
    • Delete C:\Windows\System32\drivers\timntr.sys
    • Delete desktop shortcuts
    • Delete all paths from Installation Paths
    • Go to SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Installer\UserData\S-1-5-18\Products
    • Delete all files written to \InstallProperties\LocalPackage, where \InstallProperties\Publisher has value Acronis
    • Delete all folders in %windir%\Installer{PRODUCT_CODE}, where {PRODUCT_CODE} is in \InstallProperties\UninstallString, where \InstallProperties\Publisher has value Acronis
  13. Deleting Menu entries:
    • Deleting entries on the installed products in the registry:
      • Go to SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Installer\UserData\S-1-5-18\Products
        • Write down all values, where \InstallProperties\Publisher has value Acronis
        • Delete all HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Installer\Features\
        • Delete all HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Installer\Products\
        • Delete all HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Installer\UpgradeCodes\
        • Delete all HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\Installer\Features\
        • Delete all HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\Installer\Products\
        • Delete all HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\Installer\UpgradeCodes\
        • Delete all SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Installer\UserData\S-1-5-18\Products\
        • Delete all SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Installer\UserData\S-1-5-18\Components\
        • Delete all SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Installer\UpgradeCodes\
        • Delete all SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\ <product_code> where Publisher has value Acronis
        • Delete all keys in SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Installer\Folders, that have Installation Paths in their paths
        • Delete all keys in SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Installer\Folders, that have \Acronis\ in their paths
