Delete two registry keys to fix the issue
This article applies to:
- Acronis vmProtect
Symptoms
- You have a previous version of Acronis vmProtect Windows Agent with an ESX host added to it;
- You upgrade the Acronis vmProtect Windows Agent to the latest version;
- After the upgrade, the ESX host it lost:
- An attempt to readd the ESX host to the latest version of Acronis vmProtect Windows Agent fails:
If the existing vCenter/ESX(i) host has disappeared from Configure -> ESX(i) hosts list from the virtual appliance and when you trying to add it back, you get the following error message:

Cause
The is a known issue with Acronis vmProtect.
Solution
To fix the issue, do the following:
- Invoke Windows Registry (Start-Run -> regedit);
- Delete the following registry keys:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Acronis\CredStorage\
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Acronis\VMMS\Configuration\VirtualInfrastructure\ - Restart the Acronis vmProtect Managed Machine Service (Start-Run -> services.msc)
If the existing vCenter/ESX(i) host has disappeared and you get the error message, clear the virtual appliance credentials storage as follows:
- Open the vSphere Client and click on the Virtual Appliance;
- Click the Console tab;
- Press CTRL-SHIFT-ALT-SPACE-F1 then ALT-F2 to enter the command prompt;
- In the command prompt type: rm -rf /tmp/root/.Acronis/CredStorage/*
- Reboot the virtual appliance to complete the procedure.
