  • Acronis Backup & Recovery 10 Advanced Server - Virtual Edition

Acronis Agent for ESX/ESXi is a component of Acronis Backup & Recovery 10 Advanced Server - Virtual Edition. See Acronis Backup & Recovery 10 Editions and Acronis Backup & Recovery 10 Agent for ESX/ESXi.

VMware ESX/ESXi evaluation period

Acronis Backup & Recovery 10 supports VMware ESX/ESXi through Acronis Agent for ESX/ESXi during the VMware evaluation period when there is no serial key entered.

You can install Acronis Agent for ESX/ESXi on VMware ESX/ESXi Server and back up VMware infrastructure guest operating systems through Acronis Agent for ESX/ESXi.

Free VMware ESXi

To back up machines in an ESXi Free environment, regular Acronis Agents should be installed inside the virtual machines.

The reason is that the specific VMware API through which Acronis Agent for ESX/ESXi (virtual appliance) works is the Remote Command Line (RCLI) appliance. RCLI is available in read-only access in the free VMware ESXi. Due to this, Acronis Agent for ESX/ESXi cannot function in the free VMware ESXi.

Paid VMware ESX/ESXi

Acronis Agent for ESX/ESXi supports VMware ESX/ESXi as a component of the following VMware suites:

  • VMware vSphere Standard
  • VMware vSphere Advanced
  • VMware vSphere Enterprise
  • VMware vSphere Enterprise Plus
  • VMware vSphere Essentials
  • VMware vSphere Essentials Plus

Acronis Agent for ESX/ESXi can be installed on and supports VMware ESX Infrastructure 3.5 Update 2 and higher, up to Version 4.1.

Any virtual machine (a guest operating system) can also be backed up with the regular Acronis Backup & Recovery 10 Agent.
