Acronis Backup & Recovery 10 must be installed before installing Acronis Universal Restore

This article applies to:

Introduction

(!) You do not need to have Acronis Universal Restore installed to back up a system. You only need Acronis Universal Restore to restore a system to dissimilar hardware.

(!) Acronis Universal Restore is included by default in the following Acronis products (which means no separate license key for it is needed):

  • Acronis Backup & Recovery 10 Advanced Server Small Business Server Edition (SBS)
  • Acronis Backup & Recovery 10 Advanced Server Virtual Edition

(!) Acronis Universal Restore is a paid add-on for the following Acronis products (which means you need to have a separate license key for it):

  • Acronis Backup & Recovery 10 Advanced Server
  • Acronis Backup & Recovery 10 Server for Windows (Standalone)
  • Acronis Backup & Recovery 10 Advanced Workstation
  • Acronis Backup & Recovery 10 Workstation (Standalone)

Acronis Backup & Recovery 10 Advanced Editions

If you have Acronis Universal Restore license(s) in the Acronis License Server at the time of the initial product installation (Build 1345 or higher), then Acronis Universal Restore will automatically be included in the product during the installation.

If you do not have Acronis Universal Restore license(s) in the Acronis License Server at the time of the initial product installation, then to include Acronis Universal Restore in the product you will need to do the following:

  1. Add the Acronis Universal Restore license(s) to the Acronis License Server;
  2. From Acronis Management Console connect to the Acronis Agent;
  3. Once connected, click Help -> Change license:

  4. Type in the IP address or computer name of the machine with the Acronis License Server (make sure there is an unassigned Acronis Universal Restore license available):

  5. Hit Display editions and then OK. Acronis Universal Restore will be included in the product;
  6. Make sure you recreate Acronis Bootable Media so that it has Acronis Universal Restore:

Acronis Backup & Recovery 10 Standalone Editions

If you have Acronis Universal Restore at the time of the initial product installation and provide a license for it during the installation, then Acronis Universal Restore will automatically be included in the product during the installation.

If you do not have Acronis Universal Restore license at the time of the initial product installation, then to include Acronis Universal Restore in the product you will need to do the following:

  1. Run the product and click Help -> Change license:

  2. Type in the license key for Acronis Universal Restore and click Add key:

  3. Click OK;
  4. Make sure you recreate Acronis Bootable Media so that it has Acronis Universal Restore:

Acronis Universal Restore is always included in the product, so additional actions are not necessary. Acronis Universal Restore is always included in Acronis Bootable Media:

  • Click Tools -> Create bootable media.
