29216: Acronis Backup Advanced: Connection to Remote Component Fails with "Failed to establish remote connection: Remote connections are disabled."

Make sure that target agent is not Standalone

This article applies to:

  • Acronis Backup Advanced 11.5 (Acronis Backup & Recovery 11.5 Advanced)
  • Acronis Backup & Recovery 11
  • Acronis Backup & Recovery 10

Symptoms

  1. You launch Acronis Management Console;
  2. You press Manage a remote machine and provide parameters for the machine to which you want to connect;
  3. Connection fails with error code 0x00AF0010 and the following error message:

    Failed to establish remote connection: Remote connections are disabled.

Cause

There are several possible causes:

  • You have the Acronis Agent installed on an unsupported Windows system (i.e. on a Home edition that does not allow remote connections);
  • The Acronis Agent to which you are trying to connect is from a standalone edition of the product instead of the advanced one;
  • The machine with the Acronis Agent does not allow remote connections.

Solution

  1. Make sure the Acronis Agent is not installed on a home edition of Windows. Remote connection to home editions of Windows is not supported. 
  2. Make sure that Acronis Backup & Recovery Agent to which you are trying to connect is from Advanced version:
    • On the machine to which you are trying to connect remotely, connect locally using Manage this machine option;
    • Go to Help -> Check license and check the product name in the registered license:
      For the following products, remote connection is possible:
      Acronis Backup Advanced for Windows/Linux Server (Acronis Backup & Recovery Advanced Server)
      Acronis Backup Advanced for PC (Acronis Backup & Recovery Advanced Workstation)
      Acronis Backup Advanced for VMware/Hyper-V/RHEV/Citrix XenServer/Oracle VM (Acronis Backup & Recovery Virtual Edition)
      Acronis Backup for Windows Server Essentials (Acronis Backup & Recovery Advanced Server - SBS Edition) 
      Acronis Backup Advanced Universal License
      Acronis Backup Advanced for Exchange/SharePoint/SQL/Active Directory
    • For the following products, remote connection is NOT possible:
      Acronis Backup for Windows Server (Acronis Backup & Recovery Server for Windows)
      Acronis Backup for Linux Server (Acronis Backup & Recovery Server for Linux)
      Acronis Backup for PC (Acronis Backup & Recovery Workstation)

  3. Make sure that the machine with the Acronis Agent allows remote connections.
