  1. Using Acronis Backup & Recovery 10 you are trying to delete a backup archive;
  2. The archive fails to be deleted because it cannot be accessed (e.g. the archive is mounted at the moment);
  3. In the logs of Acronis Backup & Recovery 10 there is an error entry similar to the following one:

    -----------------------------------------------------------------
    Failed to delete the volume.
    Additional info:
    --------------------
    Error code: 34
    Module: 64
    LineInfo: 95962d9a14426ce0
    Fields: volume : Files_2009_05_13_16_45_21_569F.TIB, $module : C:\Program
    Files\Acronis\BackupAndRecovery\DiskBundle.dll
    Message: Failed to delete the volume.
    ------------------------------------------------------------------

Cause

Acronis Backup & Recovery 10 archives can consist of several volumes. If any of these volumes are locked by any process during the deletion, the archive will fail to be deleted entirely. Thus the log entry shows that Acronis Backup & Recovery 10 attempted to delete the entire archive - and failed to remove one of its volumes.

Solution

If the archive is mounted/explored at the moment of running the deletion task, then you need to first unmount/stop exploring it, and then try to delete it.

More information

Starting from Acronis Backup & Recovery 10 Build 11639 there is an interaction dialog that notifies you:

Failed to delete backup archive. The archive is locked by another process or user.
