Storage Node manages the locations that serve as dedicated storages of backup archives (managed vaults)
Acronis Backup & Recovery 10 Storage Node optimizes usage of storage capacity, network bandwidth and managed machines' CPU load by allowing you to organize and manage the locations that serve as dedicated storages of backup archives (managed vaults)
Storage Node is controlled through Acronis Backup & Recovery 10 Management Server.
(!) Direct access from Acronis Backup & Recovery 10 Management Console to Storage Node is not possible.
All Storage Node operations use the resources (e.g. CPU load) of the same machine where the node is installed. This is an alternative to operations initiated by Acronis Agents, when they consume the resources of the same machines, where they are installed.
The Storage Node management operations are the following:
- Node-side cleanup - Cleanup performed by Storage Node according to the backup plans that produce the archives stored in a managed vault. This is an alternative to agent-side cleanup. Node-side cleanup cannot be disabled;
- Node-side validation - Validation performed by Storage Node according to the backup plans that produce the archives stored in a managed location. This is an alternative to agent-side validation. Node-side validation cannot be disabled.
- Deduplication – Identical data is backed up to the vault of Storage Node only once to minimize the network usage and storage space. This operation is optional;
- Node-side encryption – anything written to the vault of Storage Node is encrypted and cannot be decrypted without access to this specific node. If an archive written to the node is already encrypted by Acronis Agent, the node-side encryption is applied over the agent-side encryption. This operation is optional.
