This article applies to:
Acronis Backup Advanced (Acronis Backup & Recovery Advanced)
Introduction
A vault is a location for storing backup archives.
A managed vault is a centralized vault managed by Acronis Storage Node. To access a managed vault, user must have an Administrator account on the machine where Acronis Storage Node is installed.
An unmanaged vault is a centralized vault that is not managed by Acronis Storage Node. To access an unmanaged vault, user needs to have access privileges for the network location of the vault.
Solution
Before creating a centralized vault you need to install Acronis Storage Node and add it to Acronis Management Server. See Acronis Backup Advanced: Adding Storage Node to Acronis Management Server .
Creating a centralized managed vault
Run Acronis Management Console and connect to Acronis Management Server:
Go to Vaults -> Centralized and press Create:
Specify a unique name for the vault:
Select the vault type: Managed:
In the Storage Node field, select the storage node that will manage this vault:
In the Path field, press Change and specify where the archives will be stored. A managed vault can store archives in the following locations:
on hard drives local to the storage node
on a network share
on a Storage Area Network (SAN)
on a Network Attached Storage (NAS)
on a tape library locally attached to the storage node.
(!) A vault can only be created in an empty folder.
Specify a local folder on the storage server to create a vault database. This database will store the metadata required for managing archives:
Select whether to use deduplication in the vault:

If you want to encrypt the vault, press Change in the Encryption field, specify a password to generate an encryption key and select the encryption algorithm.
Check the parameters of vault creation and press OK to create a centralized managed vault:
The created vault will appear in the list of centralized vaults on Acronis Management Server:
Creating a centralized unmanaged vault
Run Acronis Management Console and connect to Acronis Management Server:
Go to Vaults -> Centralized and press Create:
Specify a unique name for the vault:
Select the vault type: Unmanaged:
In the Path field, press Change and specify where the archives will be stored. An unmanaged vault can be organized:
on a network share
on a Storage Area Network (SAN)
on a Network Attached Storage (NAS)
on FTP and SFTP servers
in Acronis Cloud
