Last update: 28-12-2010

This is an issue with the Virtual Machine Manager (virt-manager)

This article applies to:

  • Acronis Backup & Recovery 10 (All Editions)

Symptoms

  1. You have a virtual machine in RHEV environment with Acronis Backup & Recovery 10 installed;
  2. You activate Acronis Startup Recovery Manager on the machine;
  3. You reboot the machine and press F11 at the machine startup to call Acronis Startup Recovery Manager;
  4. After pressing F11 the virtual machine hangs.

    If you reboot the virtual machine and do not press F11, the operating system loads successfully.

Cause

This is a RHEV/VNC issue.

Solution

  1. As a workaround, do not use the Virtual Machine Manager (virt-manager) to launch the guest virtual machine - instead, call the virtual machine from the command line using QEMU:
    • To run the virtual machine with default settings, specify a path to the virtual machine image hard disk image with the following command:

      /usr/libexec/qemu-kvm –hda [image file] –hdb[image file] –hdc[image file]

    • To run the virtual machine with custom parameters, refer to QEMU user guide for the list of commands and their syntax.
  2. Use the third-party VNC client to display the guest virtual machine.

For detailed information please see QEMU User Guide.
