The cause is in the deployment template that has some options set which do not fit multiple machines deployment. As a result, some of the machines are left out

This article applies to:

  • Acronis Snap Deploy 3
  • Acronis Snap Deploy 4

Symptoms

  1. Acronis Snap Deploy correctly deploys an image to one or several machines, but fails to deploy the image to all other machines in the same session.
  2. The OS Deploy Server logs indicate the following:

(!) For information how to get OS Deploy Server logs see Collecting Acronis OS Deploy Server Operations Log.

There are clients that do not fit into specified ranges defined by templates
Remove client 'XXX.XXX.X.XX' from session 'Deployment Template'.
    Host 'XXX.XXX.X.XX' failed to deploy
    Operation was canceled.

Cause

The deployment template has some options set which do not fit multiple machines deployment. As a result, some of the machines are left out.

Example 1

The computer name in the template has a wildcard set which can be applied just to one machine - and its range is not enough for all other machines. See also Chapter 9.2.5: Computer names and domain/workgroup of Acronis Snap Deploy User Guide.

If you set the computer name to something similar to Computer, then the first machine deployed will be assigned the name Computer and other machines will fail because the name Computer has already been assigned. However, if you set this field to something similar to Computer{1} - it will name the first computer Computer1, the second computer - Computer2, etc.

(!) When using {} for wildcards, do not leave brackets empty. If you use wildcard similar to Machine{}, only one machine will be deployed. To deploy multiple machines, add a number to start count from, e.g Machine{1}.

Example 2

The issue can also be in the network settings part of the deployment template. See Chapter 9.2.6: Network settings of Acronis Snap Deploy User Guide. For example, you specify a range of IP addresses which is enough to be assigned just to one or to a couple of machines, but not enough to be assigned for all other machines. As a result, deployment to the machines out of the range will fail.

Solution

Edit your deployment template and make sure the range for all the settings is set up properly and enough to fit all the machines planned to be deployed.
