Symptoms

An attempt to install Acronis True Image Home 2011 fails with the following error message:

The installation was interrupted before Acronis True Image Home 2011 could be installed. You need to restart the installer to try again

Cause

There are two basic scenarios:

  • You had an Acronis product installed previously on the system - Acronis True Image Home 2011 cannot replace certain DLL files in the temporary folder;
  • You are installing Acronis True Image Home 2011 on a clean system, i.e. you never had an Acronis product installed on the system

Solution

  • If you had an Acronis product installed on the system or if you are installing Acronis True Image Home 2011 over an Acronis product, do the following:

    Delete the files that interrupt the installation from the temporary folder:

    1. Hit Start-Run and type in %TMP%

    2. In the temporary folder locate and delete the following files:
      • Microsoft.VC80.CRT.manifest
      • msvcm80.dll
      • msvcp80.dll
      • msvcr80.dll
    3. Reattempt the installation.
  • If you are installing Acronis True Image Home 2011 on a clean system, do the following:
    1. Collect the installer log as described in Acronis True Image Home 2011: Creating an MS Installer Log;
    2. Check if one of existing solutions applies to the issue. See Analyzing Installation Logs of Acronis Products Based on MSI Technology;
    3. If nothing helps or if you do not want to analyze the log, contact Acronis Customer Service with the installer log and a reference to this article.

  1. Collect the installer log as described in Acronis True Image Home 2011: Creating an MS Installer Log;

  3. If you find this value, then this is definitely the case and cleaning the temporary folder as described will fix the issue.
