How to create Linux based Acronis Bootable Media

Introduction

You can create a standalone version of Acronis Disk Director 11 that you can use to boot a crashed machine, or a machine without any operating system.

This article describes how to create Linux-based bootable media. For information on how to create WinPE based bootable media, see Acronis Disk Director 11: Creating WinPE-Based Acronis Bootable Media.

Solution

  1. In the main window of Acronis Disk Director 11, click Tools -> Acronis Bootable Media Builder:

  2. On the welcome screen, click Next:

  3. On the next screen, you can select Linux-like or Windows-like drive representation as well as bootable media type:

    For information on how to create WinPE based bootable media, see Acronis Disk Director 11: Creating WinPE-Based Acronis Bootable Media.

    Since this article is devoted to the creation of Linux-based media, select Linux-based:

  4. On the next screen you will be offered to enter Linux kernel parameters:

    You generally do not need to provide any specific parameters here, unless there is a compatibility issue with the machine's hardware and Acronis Bootable Media. See also Linux Kernel Parameters.

    You can leave the field blank.

  5. Check Acronis Disk Director 11 Home or Acronis Disk Director 11 Advanced to put it on Acronis Bootable Media.

    If you have both Acronis Disk Director 11 Home and Acronis True Image Home 2010 (or Acronis Backup and Security 2010), you will also be offered to include Acronis True Image Home 2010 in Acronis Bootable Media:

  6. Select to burn Acronis Bootable Media on a disc directly or save it on your hard drive as an ISO:

  7. Click Proceed:
