Acronis Drive Monitor reported the following alert for one of the disk drives monitored:

S.M.A.R.T monitoring predicted imminent disk failure

If Acronis True Image Home or Acronis Backup & Recovery software has a backup task scheduled on the event of failing hardware, this task will be triggered automatically when this status is reported.

S.M.A.R.T. (Self-Monitoring, Analysis, and Reporting Technology) is a disk monitoring technology which is available on the most modern hard drives. This technology monitors a number of internal disk parameters which may indicate abnormal disk behavior on early stages. The failure predicted status means that the drive is predicted to fail soon.

This status is reported by the hard disk firmware directly and not generated by Acronis Drive Monitor.

Although there is a chance that the disk reporting this problem will work for many months, it may fail completely anytime soon. There is also a chance that data located on such disk is already inaccessible.

Therefore, if the data is still accessible, to minimize risk of complete data loss, it is highly recommended to back up the data immediately and replace the disk at the first opportunity.

If the drive is still covered by the manufacturer warranty, it is likely eligible to the warranty repair or replacement when this status is reported. However, as every disk manufacturer has its own specifics in the way how S.M.A.R.T. reports the monitoring information, it is recommended to download and run a diagnostic utility supplied by the disk manufacturer, before contacting the warranty service.
