Instructions on how to prepare your machine to create WinPE-based rescue media

Introduction

This article describes how to prepare your machine to create WinPE-based rescue media and provides links to other articles that describe how to complete the creation.

Acronis WinPE ISO builder is a part of Acronis True Image Home 2010 Plus Pack.

Solution

1. Download and install one of the following Windows Automated Installation Kits (AIKs):
   • AIK for Windows XP and Windows Vista (PE 2.0)
   • AIK for Windows Vista SP1 and Windows Server 2008 (PE 2.1)
   • AIK for Windows 7 (PE 3.0)
2. Burn the downloaded ISO image. See Burning an ISO Image;
3. Install Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 from the downloaded kit:
   • Windows 32 bit: NETFXx86
   • Windows 64 bit: NETFXx64
4. Install Microsoft Core XML (MSXML) 5.0 or 6.0 Parser from the kit;
5. Install Windows AIK from the kit;
6. To proceed see:
   • Windows XP based PE 1.5: Acronis True Image Home 2010 Plus Pack: Adding Acronis Plug-In to WinPE 1.x
   • Windows XP based 2.0, Windows Vista or Windows 7 based PE 3.0: Acronis True Image Home 2010 Plus Pack: Adding Acronis Plug-In to WinPE 2.x or 3.0
