Introduction

For information on how to convert an Acronis True Image Home 2010 backup file to a Windows backup file see Converting TIB to VHD Files Using Acronis True Image Home 2010.

(!) The VHD file from which you are going to boot must have Windows 7 Ultimate or Windows 7 Enterprise. Other operating systems are not supported.

(!) You can only boot from the VHD file the same machine that was backed up.

(!) Any changes you make to the booted VHD file are saved to it. If you boot from the VHD file and make changes to the data that was not backed up (e.g. delete a file from drive that was not backed up), these changes will affect your live system.

Solution

  1. Run Acronis True Image Home 2010 and click Tools & Utilities -> Boot Sequence Manager:

  3. Restart the machine and select the VHD file to boot from it:

More information

The process of Windows 7 boot-up from a VHD file is completely handled by Windows 7 boot loader. Acronis Boot Sequence Manager just edits the boot configuration and provides Windows 7 boot loader with the respective information about the chosen VHD file.
