Acronis True Image Virtual Edition has the same GUI and functionality as Acronis True Image Echo Enterprise Server; the licensing policy is different

Description

(!) For Acronis Backup & Recovery 10 see Acronis Backup & Recovery 10 Editions.

Acronis True Image Virtual Edition is absolutely the same in GUI and functionality as Acronis True Image Echo Enterprise Server with Acronis Universal Restore.

The differences between Acronis True Image Virtual Edition and Acronis True Image Echo Enterprise Server is in licensing:

  • As a user of Acronis True Image Echo Enterprise Server you are allowed to install the product on one (1) physical machine and up to four (4) virtual machines on the same physical machine;
  • As a user of Acronis True Image Virtual Edition you are allowed to install software on one (1) physical machine and 99 virtual machines on the same physical machine. The license covers Acronis Universal Restore. A separate license for Acronis Universal Restore is not necessary.
  • (!) The virtual machines must be hosted on the same licensed physical machine.

Fast facts

  • Acronis True Image Virtual Edition has no License Server.
  • Acronis Universal Restore is not a separate add-on for Acronis True Image Virtual Edition. It is hardcoded in Acronis True Image Virtual Edition.
  • Acronis True Image Echo Enterprise Server and Acronis True Image Virtual Edition serial keys are not compatible.

More information

If there is a cluster environment running a virtual machine (e.g. ESX cluster), then you need to have a separate license for each physical node that you are going to back up. If you are going to back up only a virtual machine composed of several nodes, then you still need a separate license for each physical node.

You can back up virtual machines by either installing Acronis Agents inside each of them, or by integrating them with ESX (see Backing Up a Virtual Machine with Acronis True Image Echo and VMware Consolidated Backup).
