If an archive is saved to an RDX or Iomega REV drive, there will be no possibility to apply retention rules or mount it

This article applies to:

  • Acronis Backup & Recovery 11

Description

In most cases Windows detects RDX and Iomega REV drives as CD-ROMs, and so does Acronis Backup & Recovery 11.

Hence, Acronis Backup & Recovery 11 has the following limitations on working with RDX and Iomega REV drives:

  • A vault can not be created on RDX and Iomega REV drives, neither manually nor when creating a backup task. Backups will be done correctly, when selecting the drive letter in the backup task directly;
  • Retention rules will not be applied to RDX and Iomega REV drives.
  • As a workaround, use Simplified archive naming (Echo legacy mode) when creating backups on RDX drives:

    You can also delete older backups using a batch file.

    For example (change F:\ to the path of your Iomega REV drive):

    del F:\*.tib /q

    Use the batch file as a pre command in Acronis Backup & Recovery 11.

    (!) When executed as a pre command, the backup will be deleted before a new one is created.

  • There is no possibility to mount an archive from an RDX or Iomega REV drive. You have to copy the archive to another location and ensure that all volumes of the archive are in one folder. This limitation applies only to the mount functionality, you are still able to browse through the archive the using explore feature.
